Vereeniging Fresh Produce Market Celebrate Mandela Day at Kutolong Community Centre

On July 18, 2024, the Sedibeng District Municipality and the Vereeniging Fresh Produce Market took part in the 67 Minutes Mandela Day Event at Kutolong Community Centre in Midvaal (Meyerton). The Kutolong Community Centre, which officially opened on October 28, 2022, by MEC Mbali Hlophe of the Department of Social Development, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, along with Mr. Noel Pillay, Chief Operating Officer at South32, has been serving the Midvaal and surrounding areas for two decades.

Mr. Jali, the fresh produce market manager, highlighted their mission, stating, “Our key focus is aligned with that of the fresh produce market in transforming communities, sustaining and empowering youth.

In partnership with Blue Ribbon, the Vereeniging Market participated in the event to immerse themselves in the centre’s culture and spend quality time with the children and staff. Activities included preparing meals, engaging in sports, and playing games. The market also supported the event by donating fresh produce items and sanitary pads for 29 girls.

The visit was not only an opportunity to give back but also to emphasize the importance of incorporating fresh produce into daily diets. Additionally, discussions were held on food safety and security within the region and beyond.

The Vereeniging Fresh Produce Market expressed their gratitude for the invitation and the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of the children at the centre. They also called on others to visit the centre and contribute to improving the lives of these children.
